masca ravine trail

One of the most beautiful hikes in Tenerife is the route through the Masca ravine. The guided trekking takes you to spectacular rock formations and views. You will return by boat, passing Los Gigantes.

The hike was hard (it was the first I’d done in a few years), but it was amazing. Me and my sons got to see a side to the island that was a million miles away from the touristy stuff we were used to.

After you make your reservation on our website, you will receive a first email as confirmation of your purchase. Now we will work on your reservation and make a fixed booking for you. Afterwards (in time, before the activity starts), you will receive a second email with the tickets and the meeting point / exact time. It is not possible to send tickets by regular mail.

In case the offer includes a pick up / drop off (please have a look at the description, this includes the round trip), you will either be picked up at your hotel or at a nearby meeting point, just a few minutes walk away. You will receive the exact pick up / meeting point together with the tickets by email.

The intervention in the ravine, which seemed the most difficult, has been completed, but the Town Council of Buenavista del Norte and the Cabildo of Tenerife have encountered an unexpected obstacle: a change of criterion of Costas regarding the use of the jetty, which is ceded to the municipality. The two administrations expected that, after the specific reforms carried out in the berth, Costas would allow a provisional use until the definitive work, whose cost is around one million euros, is executed. However, the change in the provincial headquarters has marked a new red line and blocks for now the provisional use of this maritime infrastructure.

The island councilor of Natural Environment Management and Security, Isabel García (PSOE), details that the improvement of the path “is completely finished” and that, in addition, the order to provide the access control service is already formalized and the personnel in charge has even passed the interviews and has already been selected “to be able to start at any time”.

The president of the Cabildo, Pedro Martin, considers essential the execution of the work of the pier, for which there is already a project, and also announces that work is being done on the creation of a second docking point, in Punta de Teno, so that hikers can decide in the future if they leave the ravine to the South or to the North. Once the new Masca beach jetty is built, its management will be in the hands of the Town Council of Buenavista. According to Martín, this new maritime connection with the Lower Island will be “a project respectful with that space, which will avoid occupying areas that are not strictly necessary and whose main objective will be to generate an alternative of economic and leisure activity for this area of the northwest of Tenerife”.

One of the key elements of this new access control system is the web page and its reservation platform (www.caminobarrancodemasca.com), which allows visitors to reserve a place at a specific time for a visit. For the time being, the trail will only be open on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. In summer it will close at 18:00. Outside these hours, when the access control system will not be working and there will be no staff in the area, the path will remain closed “for security reasons”.
