“A Day in the Life” es una canción de la banda de rock inglesa The Beatles que se publicó como tema final de su álbum de 1967 Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

The description of the accident in “A Day in the Life” is not a literal description of Browne’s fatal accident. Lennon said, “I didn’t copy the accident, Tara didn’t smash her head in, but that was in my mind when I was writing that verse. The details of the accident in the song – not having seen the traffic light and the crowd around it – were equally part of the fiction.”[5] The Beatles began recording the song with the Beatles.

The Beatles began recording the song with the working title of “In the Life of…” on January 19, 1967, in an innovative and creative studio that weeks earlier had been used for the recordings of “Strawberry Fields Forever” and “Penny Lane.”[10] The two sections of the song were divided by a 24-bar bridge. At first, they were unsure about how to join these transitions. So, by the end of the recording of the base tracks, the song only consisted of a simple repetition of piano strings and the voice of assistant Mal Evans counting the bars. Evans’ voice gradually increased in echo.

On April 16, with only a few days left to pack up, The Beatles shot the exterior chase scenes for A Hard Day’s Night in different areas of London. They were outside St. John’s High School, in Notting Hill Gate, and in the adjacent streets. This building was later demolished for housing. One sequence was also filmed near Heathfield Street, a cul-de-sac where the four would run until the street ended and then run back again. A snapshot of this scene was later used on the cover of The Beatles: Rock Band video game.

Of particular note is the chord that opens the track, considered one of the band’s iconic touches: “We knew it would be the kickoff to both the film and the soundtrack LP, and we wanted something particularly powerful and effective. That strident guitar chord was perfect” commented producer George Martin in ‘The Complete Beatles Recording Sessions’.
