The image of the Virgin is a canvas instead of the traditional carving. The painting is in the center of an altarpiece located in the parish church of the Virgen de la Paloma y de San Pedro el Real, located at Calle de la Paloma n.º 19, in the neighborhood of La Latina.

When the French invasion took place, it was Isabel herself who hid the painting and the jewels of the Virgin during the occupation. Isabel died in 1813 and although her wish was to be buried in the chapel, permission was not obtained and she was buried in the cemetery of San Isidro.

Coinciding with the feast of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary, the Cardinal Archbishop of Madrid will go next Monday, May 31, to the parish of La Paloma to preside the Eucharist at 7 p.m., at the end of which he will inaugurate the mosaic installed on the facade of the La Salle school, adjacent to the temple (c/ Paloma, 21), made of hand-painted artisan tiles in Talavera de la Reina.
