Pipa and co salamanca

Pipa & CO, the new trendy place for the posh people of the capital, has opened.  Its cuisine is reminiscent of some of the pinchos of La Gabinoteca (perhaps because of the copy of the poached egg with truffle oil) and the industrial decoration and vintage style of the architect Jorge Lozano, also fashionable local Blanca 6 or Withby. Together with other entrepreneurs, Alonso Arnaz (son of the mayoress of Madrid, Ana Botella, and the former president of the Government, José María Aznar), a PR manager turned businessman who had already entered the restaurant business with La Cocina Rock Bar, has inaugurated this new project in Paseo de la Habana.

A simple menu of snacks with dishes that are not too sophisticated but surprisingly good value for money, such as steak tartar, chicken wrap with cheese, spinach and bacon, or the maria cookie, chocolate and lacasitos tart.

The menu reflects the ambience of Pipa & Co: it is varied, daring and full of surprises. For starters, we tried the delicious brie and squash blossom spring rolls, with a mild oriental flavor but with a very European touch.

At Pipa & Co you can also enjoy a weekend brunch or come in the afternoon to sit on the terrace and enjoy a smoothie. Pipa & Co is highly recommended to relax after work without missing a beat.

Habanera madrid

The restaurant is accessed by stairs that lead to the bar area and from where you can see the main dining room in the background. As soon as you enter, the way it has been decorated – light wood, blue corners, light furniture… – together with the large windows and the wonderful terrace make you feel that you have made the right choice when choosing where to eat.

We had reserved a table on the terrace, which for my taste is one of the best set up in Madrid. Keep in mind that it is on the sidewalk, that is, it has no views and is not surrounded by gardens. However, it is a cozy space, and you feel that you are really eating outdoors.

As for the cuisine, everything we tried was very tasty and the recipes for simple dishes are quite original. We had everything to share: brie spring rolls, meat gyozas, burratina with tomato, chantarella pizza and small bags of pasta.

Look: this restaurant admits a wide range of outfits, from formal attire at lunchtime on work days to jeans and a nice top at night. Guys in jeans and a shirt will also look great.    You can also dress up for dinner, but I think it’s best with not too formal looks and nice heels.
